campaign research

The sectretary of Cambridge & District Trades Union Council, Tom Woodcock,  came and gave us a talk today about the campaigns he has done, the campaign I thought was the best was when they supported the postal workers pay strike, they raised money for the royal mail workers for the money they would earn whilst they were off work. On the 31st October 2009 they stood outside of Cambridge United football ground and asked for donations before and after the game, some people even gave up to £20 towards the fund to make up for the postal staff that were on strike, they were on strike because royal mail were cutting jobs, cutting pensions and increasing work load and were not getting enough money for what they were being made to do.

They made various different websites to let people know what they planned to do and what there aim of going to the football ground was to do and what was their intention, they also made plackards to advertise and make people more aware what it was they were doing. Afterwards they gave the postal workers who were on strike what they had raised and what they would be entilted to if they had gone to work, although it wasn't as much as they would have earned although it was better than nothing.
